Tradition in the best sense: The Alpha series from Güde
Just between you and me: Solingen knives may have a good reputation, but they are often anything but exciting and in some cases even a bit insensitive when it comes to design and material combinations.
A welcome exception is the Alpha series from the traditional forge Güde, which, with its traditional design, sensitive material combination and the highest manufacturing quality, is the epitome of the "German kitchen knife" like no other series and yet appears light and modern due to its stylish design.
What all knives have in common is the beautifully shaped handle with elegant lines and the triple-riveted handle scales made of bright olive wood.
The size and weight of the handle varies depending on the type of knife, giving each knife a noticeable individuality. However, the consistent proportions skilfully underline the unity of the individual knives.
A particular highlight is certainly the eye-catching decorative rivet with the Güde palm logo in the middle of the handle, and let's be honest: It's exactly the right detail in the right place - wonderfully accurate branding. Bravo!
In general, the knives of the Alpha series are characterized by their fine overall impression and the skilfully balanced juxtapositions:
The archetypal traditional form meets modern and cleanly crafted stainless steel, the lightness of the material combination meets solid weight and the simple, functional impression is complemented by the highest quality workmanship.
All Güde knives are drop-forged in the traditional way and undergo around 50 purely manual work steps - despite their modern appearance, the Alpha knives are therefore traditional manufactured goods in the best sense of the word.
The exclusively manual processing can be seen in small details: sometimes one line does not connect perfectly to the other, sometimes a transition is not sanded completely symmetrically.
However, the knives are so immaculately crafted that these small manufacturing details highlight the outstanding quality and make the handcrafting really noticeable.

OUR SELECTION
However, we have only selected about half of the knives from the fairly extensive series for our range, as the differences and the special added value become quite vague beyond that.
Here is our detailed presentation:
X805/21cm: Large chef's knife
Heavy work knife with a long 21cm blade, a handle that fills the hand and a solid knob, balanced on the front handle rivet. Very solid feel in the hand, ideal for rough, powerful kitchen work and larger quantities.
Blade length 21cm / weight 200g
X805/16cm: medium chef's knife
Medium-sized work knife with a sturdy 16cm blade, also balanced on the front handle rivet.
Solid hand feel, but at the same time maneuverable - nice universal knife for various purposes.
Blade length 16cm / weight 170g
X764/08 Paring knife
Small cutting tools with delicate handles for small cutting work.
Weight positioned slightly further towards the middle handle rivet.
Blade length 8cm / weight 81g
X764/13cm paring knife
Small cutting tools with delicate handles for small cutting work.
Weight positioned slightly further towards the middle handle rivet.
Blade length 13cm / weight 68g
X703/06 Paring knife
One of our favorite pieces: The small paring knife with the curved blade is simply a great all-purpose knife for the most delicate work.
Blade length 6cm / weight 68g
X840/18 Chinese chef's knife
Classic vegetable knife based on the Chinese model. It takes a bit of learning to use, but it's worth it.
The handle is surprisingly narrow in relation to the blade, which is confusing at first, but allows for beautifully detailed cutting when working and does not lead to misuse as a cleaver.
Blade length 18cm / weight 270g
X430/21 cm bread knife
Remarkable anecdote: The famous Kullenschliff was developed by Franz Güde - now the worldwide standard for bread knives.
Blade length 21cm / weight 200g
X055/26 cm sharpening steel
Surprisingly, the sharpening steel is almost the most beautiful part of the entire series.
Blade length 26cm / weight 200g
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
- Not dishwasher safe (like all knives)
- Before each cooking, ideally briefly sharpen with the sharpening steel
- Occasionally treat the wooden handle with wood oil, allow to soak in for 30 minutes and polish with a cloth
