After a long search we finally found a reliable supplier for olive wood in sunny Calabria, which can produce end grain boards in our sizes and - much more difficult to find - in our quantities and quality requirements.
How beautiful this wood is, however, can hardly be put into words:
The surface is smooth and reflective, the lively grain is pleasantly ordered by the precise gluing and of intense, breathtaking wildness.
After 5 years in the cutting board business, nothing should really blow our minds anymore, but this olive...oh boy.
The weight alone shows how special these panels are: If a regular Basic weighs approx. 3kg, a Basic in Olive weighs a full 4.5kg.
And this density of the material can also be felt:
it is always 2 degrees cooler than you would expect. This difference makes every skin contact a discreet little surprise. Terrific.
Olive end grain wood in this quality and strength is purely factually a genuine rarity - the wood is knotty and the processing complex and with high cut loss connected. We hope that this source of supply will establish itself in the long term.
